Press Release: Wexford-Based Photographer Captures Modern Isolation in New Book, Alone with Everybody
A new photography book by Wexford-based artist and photographer, Vincent S. Coster, shines a light on modern life, exploring how we have become increasingly isolated despite being more connected than ever.
Alone with Everybody, launching on June 1st and available on Amazon, is a collection of street photography set in Wexford. Through a series of candid, fleeting moments, Coster captures the subtle distance that now exists between people in everyday life.
Originally from Bray and now based in Wexford town, Coster uses the streets, public spaces and rhythms of Wexford as both backdrop and subject. His images reflect a world where people sit together yet remain apart, often absorbed in their devices rather than the shared spaces around them.
“The main way that we are alone with others nowadays is when we sit with friends but are glued to our screens,” Coster says. “These photographs are about the intersection of one life with another, however brief that moment is. But also, how sometimes we miss these interactions because although we are there physically, we are often not present.”
Rather than criticising or celebrating this shift, Alone with Everybody presents an honest reflection of contemporary life. The work invites viewers to pause and consider how technology, while enabling constant communication, can also create distance between us.
Coster’s approach is rooted in observation rather than judgement. His photography captures what he describes as “the moment when lives blend in the stream of time,” preserving small, often overlooked interactions that might otherwise disappear unnoticed.
The book also highlights the growing strength of Wexford’s creative scene. While the county is widely recognised for its rich tradition in music and literature, its visual arts community continues to thrive as one of its most underappreciated cultural assets.
“With so much attention on Wexford’s writers and musicians, the visual arts scene is sometimes overlooked,” Coster adds. “But it’s a vibrant and important part of the county’s identity.”
At its core, Alone with Everybody is not about social media or digital validation, but about reconnecting with the act of looking and connecting.
The book will be available from June 1st on Amazon.
