A photo share of winter scenes that I took during the X-Mas break.

We had gotten what was needed for the shoot anyway, and there is no need for a pointless argument. I thanked her politely, and we went to gather our stuff. That is when she tried to tell me, in a matter-of-fact kind of “I have the power” tone, that I was not permitted to use any of the photographs taken on the premises.

Now, up until then, I was in the frame of mind of just moving on. But when she then decided to tell me that I could not use the images I had made, I decided that I would inform her that she was grossly mistaken. Because she was very much grossly mistaken.

I returned to Bray for a quick visit recently, to see my mother and spend time with her. It gave me a chance to photograph as I walked around the town where many of the formative events of my life happened, and a lot of non-formative but fun events also.

I will share some here from that walk.

One of the things I tried that day was shooting through a plastic bag. In part because at one point the rain shower was very heavy and I didn’t want my camera getting soaked, but also because I wanted to see what kind of effects I would get if I shot through the plastic bag. I think I need a little more experimentation with it.

You want your client to feel happy spending money in your place, because they know that you will spend money to draw them in. Also, if you want to stand out from the crowd, why would you use AI or stock imagery that they can use, or post the same DIY content that they are using?

I decided to share a few photos I took recently.

I take a camera with me everywhere now because there is always something going on, some sight that, under the right light, catches my attention and makes me want to shoot it

I thought I would post this video I recently uploaded to my social network channels (Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube) to show you a sample of the kind of portrait work I have done over the past few years. Some of the pictures are posed, while others are candid photos taken as people go about their business. One of the kinds of shoots that I offer is being hired to shoot people having a day out and wanting to capture the memories of that day. Sometimes this requires the candid shot rather than the posed.

… the arts are not some silly indulgence. The arts are a major revenue-creating industry that punches well above its weight despite gross negligence and derision by policymakers and the wider public in general.
